How to Program the IRD
(The Digital Receiver)

Procedure

Normally it should not be necessary to program the IRD at all. It is preset with the receivable channels, so you just connect the device and you are ready to watch (Well, after your Smart Card has been activated. This is done by sending the activation code through the satellite. Your IRD, and only yours will recognize the signal and activate the card. This means that you have to have the IRD active for the period which has been told to you when the signal will be send. It does not require that your TV set is active during that time!)

Smart Card Activation:

As soon as you are ready to receive the Filipino Channels you have to inform your dealer that you are all set and ready. The dealer will send an email to the ABS-CBN head quarters in Milan or London. They will forward the activation request to Manila, where the activation code will be added to the normal TV signal. Typically this will happen within a few hours, but you can expect it to happen latest after 24 hours.

Important for the activation of your smart card is that the receiver is on. So just select any one channel. Your TV does not need to be on or you don not need to be watching the empty screen. . But when your TV is on, you would suddenly see the images appear on your screen. This means your card is activated for the period you have paid for.

In the moment there is a slight problem. ABS-CBN has eliminated the channel: TFC-ME (The Filipino Channel Middle East) and has added another channel: TFC-EU (The Filipino Channel Europe). But your IRD is set up to receive the ME channel, not he EU channel. So you have to reprogram the channels. So what do do?

Select <Menu> on the remote for your IRD. The picture which you see on the right will appear. With the arrow keys go down the the bar saying: <Installation>.

Hit the OK button, and you will see the picture on the right. The password is preset from the factory to <0000> (for times zero). Do not change that password, or when you do, choose a combination which you sure will not forget. When you do, you are in trouble. In such a case it will not be possible to change anything in the programming of the device anymore. When reprogramming is needed, you will have to send the IRD back to ABS-CBN. They will reset the factory standards. Typically this will take at least 14 days.....

So, type in 0000....

Hit the OK button and you will see the picture on the right. The bar which you have to select is the bar saying: <Scan Transponder>. You could use the <Scan Satellite> when you use the DiSeq Feature to control multiple satellite with your receiver.
In such a case you need to select the satellite called: Ku-Atlantic Bird 3 when you want to set up the Filipino Channels, Or any other satellite when you want to program any TV station from another satellite.
Back to the <Scan Transponder>. You should see right of the bar <Satellite> the text: Ku Atlantic Bird 3! It'sd white in the picture which makes it hard to read. All the other data should be set correctly already as well. This is:
Frequency: 12711
Symbol Rate: 30000
Polarity: Horizontal
Code Rate: 1/2 (This is the FEC)
Scan Mode: All Channels
Network search: Disable
PID Search: Auto PID
The Signal Strength Bar indicates how good the signal is which you get from your receiver. This display can be changed via the button <i> on your remote.
So normally you do not have to change anything in this menu. Just hit the <OK> button and the scan will start. You should see that the channel 1 disappears (this was the TFC ME channel) and on channel 5 you should see the new channel TFC EU. Hit the OK button again, and the new channel setting is saved. Your channel setting is now:

1: nothing
2: ANC
3: C-One
4: PCTV
5: TCF-EU

So now now can watch the selected channeöls by pressing the respective number or by using the up and down arrows o your remote. .

When you do not like the numbers which are currently assigned to the channels, you can rearrange them. Hit the <Menu> button on your remote and select <Favorite Settings>.
Select all the channels on the right side an unmark them by hitting the <OK> button. The right side becomes empty. Now mark the one channel which should appear on the top of the right frame (corresponds to the button number <1>. Hit the OK button. The marker tick appears in the left frame, and the selected channel will appear on the first position in the right frame.

Now select the channel which should appear next and repeat the procedure. This you need to do for all 4 channels. After that your keys will be programmed according to your preferences.
